Furrry

Furrry is an android app that connects pets lovers to a community of other pet lovers and service providers. It also welcomes people who have never had a pet but to want use the app to fulfill that need.

Research

Design of the app UX for the different categories of users, located primarily in the US. The long-term goal is to continually improve the experience for the user using technology like Machine Learning and Computer Vision to make the app smarter.

The client conducted primary user research in communities with a higher concentration of a younger population because data suggested that users with different and often varied interests existed.

With respect to owning and caring for pets, insights identified points to the need to have a easy and humane approach to handling such issues as the app hopes to address.

UX Challenge

During the research phase, we identified that there was a need to verify the identity of users on the app to safeguard against poachers, smugglers and prevent inhumane pet practises common in some areas.

Another challenge addressed was getting the different interest groups relating to pets, such as control, animal rights, healthcare providers and vendors to adopt the app. In the end, the goal became to target early adopters who are also true animal lovers.

Interface

The app interface is makes use of similar visual present in apps used most frequently by the TA. To establish an a great visual experience, images are displayed in a masonry grid to encourage users explore different image sizes and configuration- Pinterest style.

To invoke a more immersive UX, the screens are designed to always put the pets front and center, with minimal distractions.

Interface

A simple way used to create user engagement within the app, is by encouraging the user to partake in certain tasks with their pets to earn badges that show up their profile pages. It also acts as a way to drive interaction within the community - who doesn't like healthy competition.

The core of the app is to provide a service that otherwise never existed before. The owners want it to be the “Instagram of Pet Apps". A place for pet lovers, pet artisnal stores, vets, and other people to connect and share experiences.
